Sacred 3

Sacred 3. What can we say, it looked rather fun. This is truly the first time we have seen the game because it just never really appealed to us. After watching this demo of the game, it looks like it is going to end up in our “need to have” list. In the beginning you are given the choice of what race or culture you are going to fight with and we were presented with one of the two new cultures that will be appearing in the new game. We were given a look at a massive looking guy who pretty much lives out in the desert to represent the Safiri. Being merchants, moving all the stuff around apparently gives you a pretty sweet upper torso. Since you can co-op in this game, you’ll be able to play with a friend and it’s pretty much encouraged because right out of the gate, you will be slammed with enemies. But because you’re awesome, you can swing through them pretty easy on the top down view you are given of the field. As you swing your weapons around and cause all sorts of havoc with your special abilities, shock wave tremors are clearly seen on the play area giving it a nice touch and feel with each move you make. This isn’t just a button masher though because there are areas that you and your friends will need to figure out how to tackle the enemies ahead. In the example we were given, you will not want to run in all Leeroy Jenkins style because the brutes standing in front of you had a massive shield in their hands causing pretty much anything you were doing to them on the front side to be reflected right back into your face.

As you move along from level to level, there are some parts in the game that the camera will pull back and down to a more human level giving you vast panoramic views of the lands you are moving through. It’s impressive because it gives you a sense that you’re not just running around a pre made map, there are things out on the side and Deep Silver wants you to see that. Each level that you head through has lots of environmental objects you can use to your advantage. For instance, in the dungeon level we were given a look at, enemies could be hit and if timed right, will be thrown off the sides of bridges in a rather sweet way. It was a nice feeling to see large ogre like creatures take a couple of hits, stumble, and then fall to their doom to the great expanses below. Another nice item that was revealed was an area where you can lead your attackers to, and with them following you you can stand on a plate in the floor that will start up a swirling blade on the ground. Essentially slicing anyone that tries to come after you. A nice little change up from time to time to keep things interesting.

After each level is done, while not in a competition, you are given a finishing screen that will show you the amount of damage and XP you did, along with your co-op friends. Once it’s done giving all of the details, you are presented with who was the best player, and thus making your feel even more crappy in life because you didn’t do as good as your buddy. Oh well, there is next time. Sacred 3 is looking to be release in 2013 and it looks like Deep Silver is doing a good job because even though this game is in it’s early stages and completely outside of the previous Sacred titles, they are doing a fantastic job.
